People have been asking us why we have come to Rome 🤔 so let us explain…
Throughout my life I’ve always had dogs, so I’d planned to get one when we cycled through Italy 2 years ago, but due to the possible complications when we reached China, I decided against the idea, which turned out to be the right decision in the end.
We had to leave Thailand yesterday (26th Sept) as the government would not renew our visa 😡 and with all surrounding countries being closed, we had no option other than to fly out of the country, which as many of you know, was a close call, as I was admitted to hospital a couple of days before with heart complications, but luckily got discharged just in time for us to get our flight, talk about bad timing! 🏥😰✈️ 🤣
We really enjoyed cycling through the Balkans, but especially the Stans, where we cycled the Silk Road through Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and then over the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan as we made our way to China, these countries offer some of the world’s greatest adventure, mainly due to them being so extremely remote, they also offer some of the harshest environments on earth, so it’s the ultimate challenge!
So taking into account all of the above, we came to the conclusion that Italy would be a great place to restart our tour, which also means we could get a dog 🐶
So meet Comet 😍we collect him in October from here in Rome, he’s a Jack Russell Terrier (rough coat) here’s a few pictures of him, from 2 weeks to 5 weeks old, also some photos of his mum (Ivynook Bumblebee) and his dad (Fair and brave invincible iron)
The breed of dog is very important due to the way we travel, it needs to be a dog that is small enough to travel on the bike, but also be able to run for hours on end throughout the day when required, it also needs to have a fearless character and be extremely intelligent, so a Jack Russell Terrier fits the bill perfect.
The next leg of our tour takes us on a similar route, as we head through the Balkans, then following the Silk Road again through the Stans as we slowly make our way to Mongolia, where we will live with the Eagle Hunters in the North and then trek across the Gobi Desert in the South, so as you can imagine, Comet is in for a real adventure, he’s going to have the time of his life!
We are going to be staying in Italy for a while, preparing for the next leg of our journey, and once Comet is ready, we’ll hit the road again!
Our life on the road, and soon to include little Comet, will be complete, so long as we have our health, this is all we need, it’s perfect, so here’s to the never ending journey ahead 😊
