Mr Sniff Update 🐶
It’s been 4 days since Mr Sniff introduced himself to us, it was high up in the mountains of Southern Georgia, near an area called Nijgori, which is a very remote part of southern Georgia, close to both the Armenia and Turkey border, and the only way of reaching this remote area, is over many mountain passes.
We had stopped to take shelter as there was a very bad thunder storm, with hailstone the size of golf balls! it was there that Mr Sniff came limping over to me and sniffed at my legs.
So 4 days later, we made it across the mountains to the West coast of Georgia, to the city of Batumi, which is quite funny, as just over 2 years ago we arrived in Batumi by bicycle from Turkey on our world cycling tour, and now we are back here with 2 dogs! 🐶🐶🤣
So today we have taken Mr Sniff to the Hospital for X-rays, and as you can see from the photo, he’s had a bad break to his back leg, and unfortunately it’s quite an old injury, so it’s not possible to operate, as a section of bone would need to be removed, which would cause is leg to be shorter, so there would be no benefit to operate, plus he’s in no pain, he just has a limp.
He’s also undergone a full health examination, including blood tests, and it’s good news, he’s very healthy, we also found out he’s about 18 months old.
Earlier in the year someone decided they didn’t want him anymore, so drove him up to the mountains and left him there, and at some point was hit by a car, resulting in his smashed leg, he’s very lucky he survived the accident, and also lucky that we came passing through the area, as he wouldn’t have survived the harsh winter.
Today he’s also started with a full course of vaccinations including rabies jabs, we’ve also put him on a special diet, which will help him gain both weight and muscle mass, and also strengthen his leg injury.
Tomorrow he’s an appointment at the dog salon in Batumi, where he’ll receive a good all over pampering, but for now he’s enjoying some relaxation in the sunshine on the beach here in Batumi.
