Now we are going to be off our bicycles for a very long time ๐ณitโs important to maintain our fitness.
Gabs has always been a fitness freak ๐she was a fitness and dance instructor and just loves any physical exercise, Iโm quite the opposite, Iโve always preferred to drink beer and eat curry ๐and would you believe I donโt particularly like cycling that much ๐คฃ itโs just a mode of transport! but I understand the health benefits to regular exercise, and it also means I can drink more beer and eat more curry ๐ not that I can get any of that around here though.. ๐ฉ
Lucky for us, weโve been stranded on an island with no one around, so this enables us to run, swim and kayak on a daily basis ๐Iโm by far no fitness expert, but Iโm told that this is all cardiovascular exercise, which is very important and helps to maintain a healthy heart and lungs, and is also great for core strength, just like cycling is.
Regular exercise also helps your immune system, just like a wise old yet extremely fit Indian doctor once said to me, eating spicy Indian food is very good for your immune system, so Iโve never stopped eating it ever since ๐คฃ
We are living on the beach, literally 10ft away from the ocean, we are very lucky to be stranded here, but itโs also very difficult at times as itโs extremely hot weather, even throughout the night, and we donโt have any luxuries here like air conditioning or even ice, but this makes us get up early in the morning and go about our daily exercise.
We start our mornings with an early 10km run as itโs low tide at sunrise so thereโs plenty of room on the beach, after that we take the kayak out and do an 8km loop (a local kindly lent us his kayak) itโs hard paddling out as we are against the tide, but coming back in, is easy as we paddle with the tide, we then finish with a 3km swim once the tide is fully in, this helps for stretching off and cooling down, after that I go looking for food and water, whilst Gabs does a body combat workout, sheโs just mental ๐คฃ
So if youโre anything like me, I understand that not everyone enjoys exercise, and that some people are not physically able to for many reasons, and it must be even harder now that the majority of you are confined to your home, but please try and do something on a daily basis, even if itโs from your armchair or bed, just 30 minutes of any form of exercise each day will most certainly benefit you, both physically and mentally, then after that, reward yourself with a spicy Indian takeaway and a cold beer, remember, life is for living! ๐คฃ stay strong, stay healthy ๐ช
Well we had already planned on having chicken curry this evening so it’s good to know that it helps the immune system, there’s some beer in the fridge it’s been there months so it’s about time it was opened!
