So since arriving in Germany we have cycled through Düsseldorf, Cologne, Bonn, Koblenz and we are now slowly heading down to Switzerland following the Rhine River.
We’ve already met some very interesting people in Germany, from staying with the lovely Maria and Burt on our first night in Germany, not sure if you’ve seen the video?? so here’s the link:
and then there was our recent nights camping at the Peterskapelle church, again if you’ve not already seen it here’s the link:
We’ve spent the last few days in a small village on the River Rhine called Loreley, do you know the story?…
..it’s about a young woman called Loreley, with long blond hair and a beautiful voice. One version describes Loreley as a mermaid who fell in love with a human and thus came ashore from the Rhine in the form of a farmer’s daughter; another claims she was a sorceress from the nearby village of Bacharach. In either case, she fell in love with a young man who did not love her back, and thereafter sat on a rock overlooking the river, serenading it with sad songs. The beauty of both her voice and appearance was so enchanting that she caused distracted sailors to break their ships on the rocks and drown.
Here she is below..
Today we are in Bacharach! and it’s their famous food and wine festival, so looks like we will be staying here for the night!
Heres a few photos from our travels so far in Germany,
